Talking Reference Data With Andrew Delaney: Back to School

Subscribe to our newsletter

Our five-year-old was stunned this morning when I told her she was starting school tomorrow, this after having spent weeks, nay months, in preparation – buying uniform, signing up for music lessons, selecting a lunchbox, choosing sandwich flavours and the like.

Happily, she was thrilled with the news. I feel equally thrilled to be back after a few months’ radio silence brought on by the twin impact of new twin girls (see one of them, above) and a lot of writing (oh, and a few weeks in Aquitaine).

Top of my agenda for the coming weeks is our autumn Data Management Summit programme, which sees us in London on October 8 and New York on November 4.

I’ve already identified a couple of highlights for the London event. We are delighted to welcome Lorraine Waters, Deputy Group CDO at HSBC, who’ll be presenting a keynote on data governance.

We’re equally excited to be hosting a very strong panel on ‘New Commercial Models for Enterprise & Reference Data Management’. In this session, we’ll be looking at how the various utility model and other outside-the-box initiatives we’ve been charting in these pages are faring.

For this session, I’m handing moderating duties to my old friend Chris Bannocks, who this year left Barclays, where he was Head of Master Data Management, to found Grasp Associates. I’ll let him tell you what the master plan is on the day.

He’ll be joined by former colleague Nigel Matthews, Director, Master Data Strategy & Change, at Barclays; John Randles, Chief Executive Officer, Bloomberg PolarLake; Steve Cheng, Global Head of Data Management Solutions, at RIMES Technologies; and former BAML, UBS and iGate data management guru Tom Dalglish, who has just joined SmartStream as Global Head of Transformation Services.

It’ll be a novelty for me to watch from the sidelines. Somehow I can’t see myself resisting the urge to chime in….

Elsewhere, the London event is gaining momentum as we add speakers and panellists on topics like enterprise architecture, KYC and client on-boarding, and the impact of regulations like Dodd-Frank, EMIR, Solvency II, BCBS 239 and Fatca.

Finally, we’ll be unveiling the winners of our now annual Data Management Awards. We’ll need a drink by the end, for sure. Happily, our friends at Xenomorph are once again taking care of the tab. Thanks guys.

I hope you can join us. The working London agenda is available here. I’ll bring more details of the New York event in a future missive.

If you haven’t yet booked your place to come to DMS – now’s the time! Book for DMS London here. And DMS New York here.
