TradeWeb, the institutional transaction portal for fixed income securities, has named Chris Smith to lead its European straight-through-processing initiative. In the face of continuing competition in the electronic bond trading arena, TradeWeb has been emphasizing its STP capabilities as an edge over potential rivals. Smith will oversee the launch of TradeWeb’s TradeXpress STP product in Europe, where it is currently in beta test. The system operates alongside TradeWeb’s AccountNet, a web-based standing settlement instructions database. Smith was most recently at Reuters, where he was responsible for the big U.K. vendor’s STP strategy. Before that, he was director of global strategy, planning and marketing at Thomson Financial’s Electronic Settlements Group (ESG), now Omgeo.
