Talking Data Management with Andrew Delaney: Back and Bigger Than Ever

Excitement is mounting here at A-Team towers as we put the finishing touches to the agenda for our Data Management Summit conference in London on October 1. And of course, right behind it is our planned summit in New York on November 3, of which more later in a future edition of this missive.

We feel the excitement about the London event is justified, since we’ve put quite a bit of work in over the past few months to make it more relevant and more useful. Part of that effort has been the creation of an advisory board and supporting council comprised of industry practitioners, who have worked with us to pinpoint the hottest topics for the conference. In many cases, they’ve rolled up their sleeves and agreed to join us, either as a speaker or as part of a panel with the result that we now have close to 25 practitioners due to take part in the day.

As you can see from the agenda, we have more sessions than before. We have four keynotes, with opening presentations from Graham Smith, CDO of Royal Bank of Scotland, and JR Lowry, Head of Global Exchange, EMEA, at State Street. Immediately after lunch we’ll hear from Adam Devine of platinum sponsors WorkFusion, on approaches to digitising operational processes and the implications for data management. And rounding out the day we’ll have a change of tempo, with a closing keynote from Michael Servaes, Chief Data Officer & Information Portfolio Manager, with the British Army, who’ll be offering up a different perspective on things.

We are thrilled to be joined by representatives from the regulatory community, as so many of you have requested in the past. For our first panel of he day, looking forward to 2016 and the challenges and opportunities presented by different regulatory initiatives, we’ll hear from Hany Choueiri, Chief Data Officer, Bank of England, and Kostas Botopolous, Vice Chair, Board of Supervisors, ESMA, as well as from seasoned industry practitioners.

Other big-picture morning sessions include panels on achieving a client-centric view of data, risk aggregation under BCBS 239 and approaches to data governance, each featuring practitioner members of our advisory panel and supporting council, as well as relevant suppliers with something to say.

We’ve split the afternoon into two streams, with one focusing on specific regulatory challenges and the other looking at technology solutions to various aspects of data management.

Each stream will kick off with a sponsor presentation, from Andrew Foulds, Senior Market Manager for SWIFTRef at SWIFT, and from Roy Manning, Director of Data Management Practice, Sapient Global Markets. The streams further will be punctuated by practitioner presentations, from David Thomas, Global Head of Client Central Services, HSBC, and Rick Avis, Head of Information and Integration Architecture, Group CTO, UBS. In between will be drill-down panel discussions of topics including KYC, data quality, data utilities and data integration.

This autumn our sponsors, aside from WorkFusion, include: Alacra, Avox, Bloomberg Polarlake, Bureau van Dijk, Clarient, Fenergo, Sapient Global Markets, SmartStream and SWIFT. Confirmed exhibitors include Datactics, Eagle, Semarchy and SIX Financial Information.

In short, there’s something for everyone. And of course there’s always more room at the inn: whether you’re a practitioner wanting to take advantage of the wealth of expertise available on the day, or a supplier seeking to make that vital connection, it’s time to get involved.
