Windy Apple Seeks Customers for NYC-Chicago Microwave Link

Windy Apple Technologies has emerged from stealth mode and is looking to sign up customers for its microwave service linking New York City to Chicago. According to executives attending the HFT World conference in Chicago, the service provides a round trip latency of nine milliseconds.

The company has been in existence since 2009 and actually deployed its microwave service a year later, for the exclusive use of an un-named financial markets customer. That period of exclusivity is now coming to an end and so the company is looking for further customers.

While industry observers suggest that at nine milliseconds round trip, the service could be improved upon with the latest technology, Windy Apple’s offering is significantly faster than the lowest latency fibre service available, which is dark fibre from Spread Networks, with a round trip latency of 13.10 milliseconds.

The company is also looking to build microwave links between other trading centres using its proprietary technology and expertise in microwave signals, frequency co-ordination, FPGA development and microwave tower structural analysis.
