Hegarty will oversee the expansion of Elektron, the firm’s financial markets ecosystem that delivers content and services worldwide, by cultivating partnerships with market participants to accelerate the growth and value-add for community members. He will report to David Kelly, Chief Technology Officer, Enterprise, Thomson Reuters.

Concurrently, Hegarty will also focus on the increasingly changing regulatory environment that is re-shaping how global markets function. He will assess the impact of these changes and shape solutions which Thomson Reuters will deliver to assist customers in complying with the new regulations.

“To work effectively, market participants require secure connectivity to communicate with one another and easily tap into a supply of global financial data, analytics, and research to develop new business models. Rob’s understanding of the global financial markets and rapidly changing regulatory environment will further bolster the growth of Elektron, which provides our customers the fastest time to market and immediate scale,” said David Kelly, Chief Technology Officer, Enterprise, Thomson Reuters.

As a thought leader and authority on technology and its impact in financial services, Hegarty brings 25 years of experience to the firm. He joins Thomson Reuters from Depository Trust and Clearing Corporation (DTCC); at DTCC, Hegarty drove the firm’s strategy, planning and marketing capabilities. Prior to DTCC, Hegarty served as Managing Director of Securities & Investments and Insurance at TowerGroup where he headed the team providing research and advisory services to C-level executives in the global financial markets industry.

Hegarty previously held senior positions with Putnam Investments and Fidelity Investments in Boston. His professional experience also includes work at Drexel Burnham Lambert in New York and Coopers & Lybrand in Boston. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from North Adams State College, and a Master’s of Business Administration from Babson College.

Robert Hegarty, Global Head of Market Structure, Enterprise, Thomson Reuters, said: “I am thrilled to join Thomson Reuters during this time of change for the industry and opportunity for the company. At the head of the industry’s innovation agenda, Elektron is well-positioned to lead the way in supplying financial institutions with the content and tools they need to respond swiftly to market changes.
