Investec Capital Markets (‘Investec’), part of Investec Bank, has appointed Nigel Robinson to the Project and Infrastructure Finance team where he will work with Maurice Hochschild, Global Head, to build the equity and advisory business in the clean power sector.

Nigel Robinson joins Investec from ING London’s Utilities team, where he spent seven years building out the financial advisory franchise. At ING he advised on a range of transactions including International Power’s disposal of its Czech heat and power generation portfolio and Tennet’s acquisition of the German high voltage grid business owned by EON, the first strategic acquisition of its kind in Europe.

Prior to joining ING, he spent three years at Ernst & Young where he worked on the high profile administration and asset disposal of TXU Europe, one of the largest utilities in the UK at the time. He was previously at Creditanstalt Investment Bank during the early privatisation wave in Central and Eastern Europe.

Maurice Hochschild, Global Head of Investec’s Project & Infrastructure team, said, “We welcome Nigel to the team. He has a first class track record in the power and utilities sector with considerable cross-border transaction experience. His expertise in building financial advisory franchises in the power sector will be invaluable as we seek to expand Investec’s advisory presence in this area.”

Investec’s current and recent lead advisor arranger roles include the C$1,570m McGill University Health Centre and C$1,988m Centre Hospitalier de l’Universite de Montreal in Canada, the ZAR7,000m Department of Energy Peaking Plant project in South Africa, and the 150MW Solar Flagship project in New South Wales, Australia.
