XtremeData Leapfrogs Competitors with a New Breed of Appliances for Database Analytics

XtremeData, an innovator providing solutions to large data analytics and complex computing problems, today announced the general availability of dbX™. The dbX family represents the next generation in database appliances designed specifically for the unconstrained analysis and exploration of large data sets. The product is a fully-integrated platform and features patented SQL in Silicon™ hardware acceleration. It is unique among competing products in leveraging the best of commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Linux server offerings, while seamlessly integrating SQL acceleration. The system offers a breakthrough architecture providing sustainable price/performance leadership.

“XtremeData’s positioning of the dbX analytic appliance as an adjunct to existing enterprise systems, specifically to provide unrestricted ad hoc database analysis is absolutely the correct way to go, ” said Bill Inmon, the father of data warehousing and CEO of Forest Rim Technology. “With the arrival of unstructured text into the analytics mix, data warehouse volumes will increase by five to tenfold. Because this wave of very large data creates problems that cannot be modeled in advance, dbX is the ideal infrastructure. It supports ad hoc queries on Petabyte datasets and is a promising solution for solving this new class of problems” Meeting Ad Hoc Data Exploration Challenges Business Intelligence (BI) analysts face ever-larger data sets deployed on legacy systems that work well for predictable queries (operational reporting), but poorly for ad-hoc querying. To achieve viable performance, today’s solutions restrict data access patterns, create models based on pre-defined queries, or force the analysts into overnight batch jobs to maintain service levels for operational BI. dbX ends the era of DBA “workarounds” and “band-aids” by directly addressing the requirements of ad hoc data exploration. The appliance provides unrestricted access via industry standard SQL, executes queries over 10x faster than existing systems, and is scalable to Petabytes. In contrast with competing products dbX provides predictable performance with a low total cost of ownership (TCO). It allows BI analysts to focus on answering business questions, unhindered by system management, data placement, or performance tuning issues. dbX is a fully-integrated “Appliance”, incorporating all the components of an analysis system: storage, computing, interconnect network and database engine. This single-vendor system eliminates the significant labor costs incurred in configuration, integration, performance tuning and in the implementation of the work-arounds mentioned above. Consequently, two immediately realizable benefits are quick deployment and low operational cost. “XtremeData’s design goals of a ready-to-use pre-configured system, fast load times, and excellent query performance have been validated during recent tests conducted at Fortune 100 enterprises,” said Ravi Chandran, CEO of XtremeData. “On a pre-release version, our systems were delivered for on-site customer evaluations, where the data was loaded and queries executed out-of-the box, without requiring indexes or other optimizations. The dbX system has consistently out-performed existing systems on sets of large and complex queries.” Key Features & Benefits
