Invesco Builds Out Eagle Performance and Data Management Solutions

Invesco has completed the second implementation phase of Eagle Investment Systems’ performance measurement solution covering its retail and institutional business in the UK and continental Europe. The performance measurement system is complemented by Eagle’s Pace data management platform, which is being used to improve internal reporting across performance, holdings, transactions and risk metrics. The data platform is also used to support Invesco’s DeskNet-based client communications platform and deliver automated client reporting in multiple languages.

The investment manager is using the Eagle performance measurement solution to consolidate its global portfolio management operations with a view to reducing operational risk, increasing efficiency and gaining an enterprise view of the business. A first phase in North America is already complete and a third will follow next year across the firm’s Asia Pacific operations.

According to Fabian Gomez, senior director at Invesco, “At the end of 2008 we reviewed our global performance platforms. Invesco is an amalgamation of several investment centres, so we had a multitude of systems. In 2009, we decided to create one performance measurement business organisation. We selected Eagle to provide a global performance measurement platform and retired vendor systems from StatPro and the legacy Performance platform from Portia, as well as a few proprietary systems.

“We started in North America with a global data architecture project covering data architecture, governance and delivery. This included the implementation of the Eagle solutions. In late 2011, we retired existing StatPro performance systems in Europe and implemented the Eagle performance measurement software.”

Describing the benefits of the Eagle solution, Gomez adds: “Historically, we had a lot of inefficient processes that were prone to error. By formalising the data structure and consolidating data we have reduced operational risk. With all our North American and European institutional and retail funds now covered by the Eagle performance measurement solution, we can also give our performance team an holistic view of products on a global scale and facilitate client reporting from one platform rather than many disparate systems. ”

Invesco worked with Eagle, a subsidiary of BNY Mellon, and consultancy Citisoft on the implementation, which integrates the performance and Pace data management platforms with a Charles River front-office solution, Cadis (now Markit EDM) single security master, portfolio accounting systems and third-party administrators.

The company plans to leverage the existing production instances of the Eagle platform in Asia Pacific next year. It will also kick off a business intelligence initiative based on Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise software – Invesco is an Oracle database user – that will allow executives to analyse centrally stored global data.
