Anova Technologies has gone live with a hybrid laser market data link between the Secaucus and Carteret, New Jersey data centres that house the Nasdaq and Bats/ Direct Edge matching engines. The company is offering Nasdaq TotalView-ITCH and BX, Bats BZY and BZX, and Direct Edge EdgeA and EdgeX market data feeds at 94.5 microseconds one-way with availability above 99.9%. It is also challenging high costs associated with wireless market data with a range of connectivity solutions.

Michael Persico, CEO and founder of Anova, explains: “While many providers talk about democratisation of access, the reality to date is that many end users haven’t been able to reconcile the cost to value equation when it comes to wireless offerings. Our aim is to change that. Our wireless market data and connectivity has tiers for every size of firm, is the fastest and due to the high availability, is up all the time so you’ll never lose your book.”

The hybrid laser network is powered by Intellimax ULL3000 wireless communications products from Anova partner AOptix. The products are based on AOptix’s laser-radio technology and make the Anova network resilient against weather conditions including rain, fog and snow. Originally developed with the Department of Defense for use in communications between jets zooming through the sky at MACH speeds, AOptix ULL3000 is designed for harsh weather conditions and can adjust its position and wavelength when necessary.

Persico concludes: “No-one is doing what we are doing today. Some people are trying to improve latency, some capacity, but not too many are looking at availability. The fact is, we’re focused on improving all three variables to the absolute limits of physics.”
