Taming Data Complexity Through Semantic Layers: Webinar Preview

Subscribe to our newsletter

The complex data needs of modern financial institutions requires a level of technical mastery that is beyond the talents of most members of their workforces.

Artificial intelligence and agentic automation, in particular, have hastened that evolution to such a degree that without such mastery across the enterprise, organisations leave themselves competitively vulnerable.

The solution to democratising data access and use has come in the elevation of the  the semantic layer from a business intelligence tool to enterprise analytics use cases. These digital instructions enable non-technical end users to access, use and direct AI models and agents by parsing natural language intent into data action.

The criticality of semantic layers in AI and agentic deployment is apparent in the flourishing ecosystem of companies that have emerged to provide organisations the capabilities to build these interpretive layers. Consequently, big-name platforms like Snowflake and Databricks now jostle with relative newcomers Stardog, ThoughtSpot and many more.

Bringing Clarity

To shine a light on the fast-expanding and important corner of the data space, A-Team Group Data Management Insight’s next webinar will look at how semantic layers can be built and utilised within capital markets firms.

Building a Semantic Layer for Your Enterprise Data Estate will take a practical approach to the topic with a panel of data experts who are at the vanguard of the discussion.

Raguvaran Reddy Kalluri, Lead Developer & Solution Architect at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), will be joined by Jez Davies, Chief Information Architect at Northern Trust and Matej Matoulek, Senior Product Manager at Ataccama, for the webinar panel.

The event, which will be moderated by Sarah Underwood, editor at A-Team Group, will look at how semantic layers can bring value to organisations and examine how they can most effectively be configured for an enterprise.

They will touch on topics that include:

  • Best practices for building a semantic layer
  • How such structures can be monitored and validated
  • The kinds of modelling tools used in their creation
  • Construction challenges and how to overcome them

Semantic layers are essential to the delivery of trusted data. Ataccama noted as such recently at the announcement of an enhancement to its Ataccama ONE solution, which saw the company add data products to its capabilities.

Without trusted data, organisations cannot rest assured that their models and gents are working safely, let alone reliably.

“It sounds mundane, but the semantic layer solves a painful problem, especially in data analytics,” the company wrote in a recent blog. “Without it, every BI tool, dashboard and analyst applies slightly different logic, and the same question returns three different numbers depending on who asks.

“A semantic layer standardises definitions in one place so that humans and AI get consistent answers.”
