Trading Up: Helping Our Youngsters Get What We Do

By Andrew Delaney, President, A-Team Group.

We hear it time and time again – at our conferences, on our roundtables and from our advisory boards: our beloved financial data and technology industry is suffering from an acute skills shortage. Flip to the other side of the coin, and employers and parents alike fret about the long-term of impact of AI on the career prospects of our young people.

What’s to be done?

One answer, at least, is close at hand. Work in Fintech AI Summit 2026, landing in the City of London this August, was built precisely to address the gap between what the industry needs and what young people are being prepared for. It’s not just a talking shop. At the event – organised and hosted by ipushpull CEO Matt Cheung – around 120 youngsters will spend the day in workshops, participate in a live hackathon, and enjoy structured networking with practitioners from the trading and banking tech sector, working through the same problems our sector is struggling to solve.

The results give the model some credibility. Last year’s AI-themed summit, hosted at Google, saw hackathon winners land internships at LSEG, Rimes, BMLL, and Sigma AI, with the top team also picking up a pitching slot at Web Summit Lisbon. Earlier alumni have gone on to roles at firms including Citi, ION, ipushpull, and SteelEye – a track record that speaks directly to the anxieties raised above. If AI is reshaping what a career in finance looks like, exposure to how it’s actually being used, this early, is one of the more sensible responses available.

If you know a young person circling the industry from the outside – a graduate niece, a junior analyst’s sibling, someone asking sharp questions about fintech but unsure how to get in – this is a fantastic way to answer that ‘what’s to be done?’ question with something concrete. The full Summit agenda and registration details are worth passing on directly.

There’s a role here too for firms weighing where their recruitment budgets are best spent. Work in Fintech’s summits have already drawn financial backing from names like payabl, and for good reason: sponsorship here isn’t just visibility with an engaged talent pool, it’s a tangible answer to the skills-gap conversation happening in every boardroom and roundtable we sit in. It’s a better story to tell stakeholders than another panel discussion about the problem.

Whether you’re considering bringing someone along, or exploring what sponsorship could look like, Work in Fintech is easy to reach. You can see the calibre of coverage they’ve already attracted on their press page – their contact details are just as accessible, and it’s worth being one of the people who actually gets in touch.

We at A-Team are fully behind the initiative. So should you be.
