Upcoming Webinar: The Vanishing Close: Rethinking Trade Surveillance for Always-On Markets

2 December 2026

Date: 2 December 2026
Time: 10:00am ET / 3:00pm London / 4:00pm CET
Duration: 50 minutes

Global markets are moving steadily towards longer and increasingly continuous trading. Extended-hours initiatives in US equities, the growth of overnight venues and the emergence of new markets and instruments are challenging assumptions that have underpinned trading and surveillance systems for decades.

For trade surveillance teams, this creates a particular problem. Many surveillance processes depend on reference data that defines when markets open and close, when instruments settle, which calendars apply and how individual venues operate. As trading hours extend and market structures become more fragmented, those definitions are becoming more dynamic – increasing the risk that outdated or hardcoded assumptions generate missed alerts, false positives or gaps in surveillance coverage.

At the same time, regulators are paying closer attention to the quality, completeness and governance of the data underpinning surveillance. Firms therefore need to consider whether their surveillance infrastructure can keep pace with changing market structures, and how reference data should be governed when there is no longer a single, universally understood definition of the trading day.

Join industry experts as they discuss:

  • How extended and near-continuous trading is changing the assumptions built into trade surveillance
  • Where reference-data dependencies can create blind spots, including trading hours, settlement times, holiday calendars and venue-specific market conventions
  • Why data quality and completeness are becoming increasingly important elements of surveillance governance
  • What regulators expect firms to demonstrate around surveillance data, controls and third-party dependencies
  • How firms can build more adaptable surveillance frameworks as trading hours extend and the number and variety of venues increase

This webinar is designed for heads of trade surveillance, market conduct and compliance, alongside trading technology leaders, data and surveillance architects, compliance technology teams and others responsible for the systems, data and controls underpinning market abuse monitoring.
