Otkritie, one of the largest financial groups and leading providers of high frequency trading solutions in Russia, has hired a team of eleven to bolster its expanding fixed income and strategy department.

The appointments coincide with the latest Thomson Reuters Extel results, which focus on excellence in investment banking and asset management as voted by institutional investors across Europe, as well as the Institutional Investor All-Russia Research Team rankings. Otkritie achieved eighth (an improvement of nine places since 2010) and joint eighth positions respectively.

These latest successes are evidence of the significant results being delivered following investment across the business and client coverage over the last 12 months.

Ron Solberg has been appointed Managing Director, Head of Fixed Income Research and Strategy, and will report into Alexander Burgansky.

In his new position, Mr Solberg will primarily focus on Eurodollar and local-currency opportunities in CIS and CEEMEA. His responsibilities include Fixed Income Strategy, Credit Research – Eurobonds and Rouble Bonds, as well as Quantitative Research.

Prior to joining Otkritie, Mr Solberg was Co-Founder and Managing Director of Armored Wolf, a global investment manager, where he was responsible for all emerging market investment activity. His buy-side experience includes launching his own successful investment management firm with HNW and major hedge fund clients where he ran global macro, special situations and long-short credit strategies.

In previous roles Mr Solberg worked at PIMCO, Tokyo Mitsubishi (London) and Chase Securities (Hong Kong). He has also advised Standard & Poor’s and been a consultant to the RAND Corporation.

The full team is as follows:

  • Evgeny Vorobiev, Deputy Head of Fixed Income Research, Ruble Market Strategist
  • Dmitry Poliakov, Senior Eurobond Bank Credit Analyst
  • Bruce Goodwin, Senior Eurobond Credit Strategist
  • Nargiz Sadykhova, Corporate/Bank Credit Analyst
  • Vadim Sobolevski, Sovereign Credit & Local Markets Analyst
  • Alexander Afonin, Ruble Bank Credit Analyst
  • Olga Nikolaeva, Ruble Corporate Credit Analyst
  • Gareth Wessels, Senior Quantitative Analyst
  • Ikander Abdoullaev, Quantitative Analyst
  • Tom Spencer, Quantitative Analyst.

Alexander Burgansky, Global Head of Research at Otkritie Financial Corporation, commented: “These rankings give us a great indication of where we stand within the market and most significantly with our clients. The positive feedback we have received over the past two weeks indicates that our continued investment into the research sector of our business, particularly in terms of hiring the best talent from across the industry, has been a valuable one. We look forward to seeing the results for the remainder of the year and hope to maintain our success.”
