Ingres Corporation, innovators of Ingres VectorWise, a breakthrough analytic database, and leading providers of open source enterprise-grade database, today announced it has hired industry veteran and ex SAS executive, Geoff Sheppard, to strengthen its executive management team. Sheppard will serve as the Vice President of Sales for NEMEA and SEMEA, and will head up sales of Ingres VectorWise.

“The launch of Ingres VectorWise in June of 2010 provides Ingres with a tremendous opportunity for growth, and attracting seasoned executives and personnel such as Geoff will help us take full advantage of the opportunity in front of us,” said Roger Burkhardt, CEO of Ingres.

With over 20-years of experience, Geoff joins us from SAS where he built and managed sales teams covering financial services and commercial sectors with a key focus on generating new business. Success was built on having a clear focus on positioning the value of analytics as a source of competitive advantage for businesses that aspire to deliver superior performance. Prior to SAS Geoff held senior sales leadership roles at Informix/Ascential Software and CA.

“Companies are recognising that in order to compete in today’s market, they need to differentiate across all parts of their business including product development, supply chain and customer service,” said Sheppard. “BI and analytics are seen as the foundation on which to create competitive advantage and the recent acquisitions by IBM, Oracle, and SAP validate that BI and analytics is now on the board room agenda.”

Ingres believes that a fundamental issue in delivering fact-based decision making is creating value from the incredible volumes of data that companies generate through their business processes. Data volumes continue to explode and organisations that can harness the insight locked away will deliver superior performance. Ingres VectorWise helps companies move BI and analytics from an off line batch process to near real time analytics.

Sheppard went on to say “the reason I joined Ingres is that I can see the value Ingres VectorWise can bring in addressing the core requirements in this space. Analysing data very quickly at a price point that makes it viable to all sized organisations will be a key to the success of today’s analytic database providers. Ingres VectorWise will play a key role in bringing this vision to life and will deliver high value for customers, partners and shareholders.”
