Eagle Investment Systems Discusses Move to Agile Delivery Platform

Eagle Investment Systems has released the next generation of its core portfolio management software, saying the 2017 release will be its last traditional software release as it is moving to a more agile and continuous delivery model to help users keep pace with evolving regulatory demands and technology change.

The company is also firming up ties between its software and the Nexen technology platform offered by parent BNY Mellon. Nexen, a cloud-based and open source technology platform, hosts hundreds of investment management apps provided by BNY Mellon, subsidiaries such as Eagle and selected third parties. These apps all co-exist on Nexen and can be accessed through application programming interfaces (APIs), user interfaces and dashboards.

The 2017 release of Eagle’s portfolio management software extends the suite’s derivatives coverage as well as its fund accounting capabilities. The release also includes additional operational tools and platform developments. Fund accounting improvements include enhanced expense processing, added workflows to meet new money market regulations, and functionality to address reporting requirements stemming from regulatory modernisation by the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC). On derivatives, the company has expanded coverage of asset types and added workflows to handle complex securities as well as automation to streamline processes for derivatives and total-return swaps.

Steve Taylor, chief technology officer at Eagle, says: “A key trend we’ve seen is clients adopting more Software-as-a-Service or managed service solutions. This has opened up opportunities to scale the operational tools that sit around our data management capabilities, provide a one-to-many type relationship, and ensure an operational backbone to support clients.” He adds: “We’re also working more with clients to support unstructured data.”

In terms of Nexen, Eagle is focusing on integrating its strategic fund accounting and other software with the platform. It is also providing underlying data sources to support Nexen API initiatives – particularly in the middle office, fund accounting and insurance space – and light up some of the platform’s capabilities.

Reversing the relationship, Eagle has added an analytics layer to its Access private cloud that is based on BNY Mellon’s Digital Pulse technology and provides big data analytics showing the status of operational data such as how many trades are failing and reference data quality.
