Securitize and Stellar Plan Integration to Support Regulated Financial Transactions

Tokenisation platform Securitize plans to integrate with the Stellar network, making it the 17th blockchain ecosystem that it supports. Stellar joins prominent financial markets networks including Ethereum, Solana, and Avalanche – and adds regulated, SEC-registered transfer agent infrastructure to Stellar’s increasingly popular financial rails. As a result, the partnership will offer global asset managers a highly scalable and cost-effective environment to issue and manage real-world regulated assets.

The announcement comes at a time of significant expansion for both entities. Currently, Securitize manages approximately $5 billion in tokenised securities for top-tier asset managers, including BlackRock, Apollo, and Hamilton Lane. Meanwhile, the Stellar network has quietly consolidated its position as the fourth-largest ecosystem for tokenised real-world assets, driving its total real-world asset value from $785 million in January to more than $3 billion by mid-year. While the companies have not yet disclosed a timeline or a specific launch product, the architectural framework reveals a deeply integrated compliance strategy designed to meet strict institutional standards.

“The Stellar network has built the fourth-largest ecosystem for tokenised real-world assets, which speaks to the strength of its network and the growing institutional demand for tokenisation,” says Carlos Domingo, Co-Founder and CEO of Securitize. “We’re excited to integrate with the Stellar network and bring Securitize’s regulated infrastructure to an ecosystem that is already helping drive the adoption of tokenised financial products.”

At the core of the collaboration is the technology alignment between Stellar’s decentralised protocol layer and Securitize’s application-specific compliance functionality. Unlike general-purpose blockchains that rely heavily on custom smart contracts for security rules, Stellar bakes compliance controls directly into its native base layer. This includes built-in “asset flags” – or protocol primitives – that allow issuers to execute hard blocks on unauthorised wallets (to support KYC gatekeeping), trigger a governed freeze during security threats, or use clawback functions to legally recover tokens in cases of fraud or lost private keys.

While Stellar provides these execution rails at the ledger level, Securitize’s proprietary Digital Securities (DS) Token capability functions as the intelligent identity and compliance manager. It acts as an application wrapper, assessing the legal criteria that dictate when and why those base-layer primitives should be utilised. This dual-layer architecture ensures that institutional funds can move with the speed and fractional cost of decentralised rails without operating outside an enterprise-grade regulatory umbrella.

To satisfy the stringent regulatory criteria governing traditional financial products, the DS Token capability operates through three primary compliance mechanisms on the Stellar network:

First, the protocol introduces a multi-wallet investor identity model. While traditional blockchain networks generally anchor compliance directly to a single wallet address, the DS Token shifts this paradigm to an investor-centric identity approach, where an investor’s verified ID – established via off-chain KYC/AML onboarding – can be mapped across multiple distinct Stellar wallets.

If an investor loses a private key, the DS Protocol instructs Stellar’s underlying ledger to execute a native clawback, destroying the compromised tokens and reminting them to a newly verified wallet without dismantling the investor’s broader identity profile.

Second, DS Token enforces dynamic, real-time compliance checks before any transaction settles on the ledger. It continuously communicates with an on-chain Compliance and Registry Service to handle variables too complex for a base blockchain protocol to manage independently.

This includes enforcing maximum investor thresholds, such as keeping US private funds strictly under the 2,000-investor limit, and tracking mandatory lock-up periods required by SEC Regulation D. DS Token also evaluates tax residencies and accreditation statuses in real-time, automatically blocking any transfer that breaches secondary market rules or jurisdiction-specific laws.

Finally, DS Tokens automate complex corporate lifecycle actions like fund splits, redemptions, and dividend distributions through a native rebasing mechanism. Rather than forcing an issuer to broadcast thousands of individual gas-heavy transactions to distribute fund yields, DS Tokens use a global multiplier. A single state change instantly adjusts token balances across all eligible Stellar wallets simultaneously.

This operational efficiency allows major asset managers to automate ongoing corporate actions, preserving administrative resources while ensuring total transparency for auditors and regulators alike.

“Securitize has helped establish tokenisation as a practical solution for major financial institutions,” says Denelle Dixon, CEO and Executive Director of the Stellar Development Foundation. “We’re excited to work together to expand the infrastructure available to asset managers and support the next generation of tokenised financial products on Stellar.”
