DataFlux Announces the First Annual Data Stewards Day and Inaugural “Stewie” Awards

DataFlux , a leading provider of data management solutions, today announced the first annual Data Stewards Day. This initiative was created in collaboration with the Data Roundtable news site and will be celebrated on 11th October 2011. In recognition of the integral role of data stewardship in facilitating enterprise data management and governance, the Data Stewards Day committee has also opened nominations for the first ever Data Stewards Day Awards, also known as “The Stewies.”

About Data Stewards Day
Data Stewards Day is dedicated to the data management leaders who have a major impact on their companies but don’t get enough recognition for the work they do. Some of them may actually bear the title of “data steward” while others may simply be known as the person who forms a data bridge between business and IT. The actual titles are unimportant – a data steward is anyone who makes a difference in an organisation by managing the information that drives the business forward.

“A data steward is the central point for communicating across different lines of business, someone who understands the needs of both business and IT,” said Tony Fisher, president and CEO of DataFlux. “A data steward could be an IT person who gets involved with the business side of the organisation to understand and help facilitate the usefulness and management of data. Or it can be a business person who works closely with IT to ensure they understand how to be the ‘custodian’ of the data so it is fit for the business purpose.”

About The Stewies
Who deserves a Stewie? A data steward who works hard and loves the job; someone who knows everything there is to know about the organisation’s data; someone who has saved the day by enabling accurate data-driven decisions – maybe more than once. The Data Steward of the Year will be judged by a panel from the Data Roundtable, a group of data governance, master data management (MDM), data integration and data quality experts, including David Loshin, Jill Dyché, Joyce Norris-Montanari, Jim Harris, Dylan Jones and Rich Murnane.

Submitting Nominations for The Stewies
Co-workers can submit their steward for nomination or stewards may nominate themselves. To enter, go to www.datastewardsday.com and submit a nomination by 26th September 2011. Nominators should provide a detailed explanation (no more than 300 words) of why their nominee should win a Stewie. As a supplement to the basic nomination, judges encourage submitters to create a YouTube video that details why the data steward should be appointed to the Data Stewards Hall of Fame. Entries will be judged based on creativity, ingenuity and sincerity. The winners will be announced on Data Stewards Day, 11th October 2011.
