Having been granted the regulatory green light, Chi-X Australia is set to go live at the end of this month, as a competitor to the incumbent Australian Stock Exchange. The soft launch phase will begin with the trading of eight securities, and will then be expanded to all S&P/ASX 200 component securities and ASX-listed ETFs.

Chi-X Australia’s trading systems – implemented atop of IBM’s WebSphere MQ Low Latency Messaging platform – are located at Equinix’s Sydney data centre, providing a straightforward route to co-location by trading firms and systems vendors.

Trading system vendors are one the case. Fidessa is opening a new data centre in Sydney to host its SaaS-delivered order routing services and to provide low-latency connectivity. The company is also providing infrastructure to ASX for the latter’s Best trading workstation.

And Trading Screen is pitching its Liquidity + system to buy-side investors to provide a single view of trading across the Australian equities markets.
