Adaptive Combines Software AG Solutions to Deliver Real-Time Big Data Analytics

Adaptive Consulting has extended its relationship with Software AG to become a strategic partner working across the software company’s in-memory data management, streaming analytics, complex event processing (CEP) and universal messaging solutions. The consultancy has implemented Software AG’s messaging solution in global banks for a few years and is now working with two of the company’s acquired products, Terracotta, a low latency, high volume in-memory data management product, and Apama, a CEP product, to deliver solutions including big data management, event processing, visualisation, and fraud and surveillance monitoring.

Software AG acquired Terracotta in 2012 and promotes it as a market surveillance solution. Beyond this single use case, Adaptive will use its expertise in front-office development to combine Terracotta, Apama, which Software AG acquired last year, and the company’s universal messaging platform to deliver real-time big data analytics.

Matt Barrett, director of Adaptive Consulting, says the combination of the products can help banks fulfil their increasing desire to deploy real-time pricing analytics that can support and improve trading and sales decisions. He explains: “These tools democratise data and put it in the hands of sales people and traders in real time. Apama analyses all the data events across the sales and trade workflow, the results are stored in Terracotta and alerts are pushed out if particular events occur, allowing users to make immediate, accurate and high value decisions.”

While both Terracotta and Apama are performance applications in their own right, Barrett notes that their tight integration provides a solution that can be deployed more easily and with a lower total cost of ownership then a solution including streaming analytics and in-memory data management capabilities from different solutions vendors. To support rapid build out of business functionality around Apama and Terracotta, Adaptive has developed a number of accelerators including libraries and frameworks for high level business flow.

Adaptive and Software AG are implementing the combined solution at a number of banks, with the first, based in London, due to go into production at the end of this month. The project has taken about six months from a standing start to delivery of a mature platform, with Adaptive deploying Apama and Terracotta, tailoring workflows and ensuring the solution supports business strategy.

The challenges arise from siloed systems, manual processes and poor entity data quality. The potential benefits of successful implementation include excellent client experience, improved client acquisition and loyalty, new business opportunities, reductions in costs, competitive advantage, and confidence in compliance.
