MetaMako Launches MetaApp Latency-Reduction Device

By Zoe Schiff

Low latency trading specialist Metamako has launched MetaApp, a latency-reduction device aimed at the trading and exchange communities and the telcos that provide them with connectivity. MetaApp seeks to address firms’ growing requirement for flexibility and determinism in their efforts to establish and support low-latency infrastructures in support of fast market access.

MetaApp allows trading firms to develop software directly onto the switch, running applications with as few inhibitions as possible as a result of hardware issues. MetaApp makes use of a layer1+ switch, an FPGA and an x86 server to build on its predecessor products – MetaConnect and MetaMux – allowing firms to develop unique trading applications quickly and easily.

MetaApp’s focus on technical efficiency means that firms can reduce the quantity of physical devices involved in the trading process, which further decreases latency.

According to Metamako business development manager Ciaran Kennedy, “The possibilities for this are almost endless: from data capture to intrusion detection, firewalls, feed handlers and even pre-trade risk checking. Some of our clients have been beta testing the platform since February and already have custom applications in production.”
