Tradition Integrates Azul Zing to Increase Trading Predictability and Performance

Tradition, the interdealer broking arm of Compagnie Financière Tradition, has integrated Azul Systems’ Zing Java virtual machine (JVM) into its high performance trading platforms to deliver predictable, high throughput and low latency execution. The company also expects the adoption of Zing to free up developer time that will be used to pursue new revenue streams.

Yann L’Huillier, group chief information officer at Tradition, says: “For a number of years we have been investing significantly in our infrastructure to ensure we offer our clients a best-in-class service. Azul is recognised within the financial services sector as a provider of technology that enhances performance and ensures predictability of trade execution. Once we had successfully tested Zing and measured its clear benefits, it was an easy decision to incorporate Zing into our trading infrastructure.”

Scott Sellers, CEO of Azul, says Tradition, like many other Zing users, is likely to have migrated to Zing from Oracle’s HotSpot JVM, which is a generically good piece of software but has limitations in trading environments demanding extremely low latency and high performance. He explains: “With a conventional JVM, trading systems are not able to deliver consistent low latency with high scalability and certainty of execution. Zing removes the shortcomings of Java, such as inconsistent response times and application jitter, and improves trade execution. It also enables development teams at brokers like Tradition to focus on new capabilities and revenue opportunities.”

Looking forward, Sellers says Azul will continue to work with its customers to develop the Zing JVM and the company’s ReadyNow! technology that solves the warm-up problems of Java applications. It is also looking forward to next year’s release of Java 9 and is working on versions of Zing that will take advantage of advances in the new release.
