Proprietary trading firms are increasing their technology budgets in anticipation of another strong year of trading in 2023, according to the latest Acuiti Proprietary Trading Management Insight Report, produced in partnership with Avelacom

The report surveyed over 100 senior proprietary trading executives from across the globe and found that 68% were planning above average technology budgets in 2023. Reflecting the importance of speed in times of volatile market conditions and droughts of liquidity, their stated focus areas will be improving latency, as well as connectivity to new markets.

EFRAG Gives Nod to EU Corporate Sustainable Reporting Standards

ESG reporting standards for European companies have been approved. The European Financial Reporting Advisory Group (EFRAG) gave its backing to the final version of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), which will prescribe how companies must disclose their ESG performance.

EuroCCP Rebrands to Cboe Clear Europe

Pan-European clearing house EuroCCP, which was acquired by Cboe Global Markets in July 2020, has rebranded to Cboe Clear Europe with immediate effect. Under Cboe’s ownership, Cboe Clear Europe has enhanced its position as a leading pan-European cash equities clearing house, as well as diversifying into equity derivatives following the launch of Cboe’s pan-European derivatives exchange, Cboe Europe Derivatives (CEDX), in September 2021.

Cboe Clear Europe will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary of the Cboe group, retaining a separate governance structure and management team.

Liquidnet Integrates Proprietary Trading Analytics into Equities Trading Application

Technology-driven agency execution specialist Liquidnet has announced the integration of the firm’s proprietary trading analytics into its equities trading application. Powered by Liquidnet Investment Analytics (IA), traders will now have access to personalised pre- and intra-trade analytics through real time alerts and intuitive visualizations within the Liquidnet equities application.

With this new workflow enhancement, Liquidnet aims to address the challenge of applying data analytics to high touch flow and hard to trade orders.

Investors Fear Poor Reporting Undermines Investment, Trust in ESG

Investors are concerned that corporations’ ESG disclosures aren’t detailed enough. A survey by EY found that about three-quarters of investors didn’t believe the companies in which they invested gave sufficient data-driven insights on which to make decisions. This is undermining the smooth running of capital markets and eroding trust in ESG, the survey stated.

European Parliament Adopts CSRD

The European Union’s parliament has endorsed the creation of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), the regulation that’s intended to oblige larger non-financial companies to disclose their ESG performance. The parliament overwhelmingly approved the formation of the framework, which is to be implemented by the end of next year.

Capital.com to Take Refinitiv ESG Data and Sentiment Analyses

Refinitiv will supply ESG data top clients of European investment trading platform Capital.com. The data provider, part of the London Stock Exchange Group, will provide real-time data as well as AI-generated sentiment analysis.
