Xenomorph has integrated the R language and environment with its TimeScape analytics and data management platform, and plans to integrate more scripting languages as they gain popularity among quantitative traders and risk managers.

The integration of R, an open source data analysis platform, allows users of the language to access validated datasets managed within TimeScape as well as extend the data analysis capabilities of R by using the analytics managed within TimeScape. Naj Alavi, managing director of Xenomorph’s New York office, explains: “In our view, making data available anywhere and in any way that users need to consume it is vital to improving data management and maximising efficiency across the front, middle and back office. We are committed to providing the necessary interfaces to enable our clients to maximise the value of their data. The integration with R is a significant addition to our investment in TimeScape as we continue to evolve the platform.”

The company expects the integration of R to be of particular use to quants building and controlling products in the front office and risk managers analysing data to understand the behaviour of markets. Brian Sentance, CEO of Xenomorph, says: “R continues to be a fantastic environment for data analysis and our TimeScape for R connection allows clients even more options for consuming and adding value to data.”

Xenomorph recently integrated TimeScape with Aqumin’s Alphavision visual software, adding to integration with Excel, Matlab and the company’s SpreadSheet Inside technology.

Looking forward, Sentance says the company has completed a proof of concept with F# and suggests it will provide integration with more scripting languages that, similar to R, are relatively easy and efficient to programme with compared to traditional languages such as C, C+, C++, Java and .Net.
