Talking Reference Data with Andrew Delaney: The 100 Club Circa 1977

What do Colin Hall, Colin Gibson, Rupert Brown, Chris Johnson, Diarmuid O’Donovan, Tom Dalglish, Robert Hofstetter and Neville Homer have in common? They are all part of the unique mix of familiar faces and rising stars that makes our Data Management Summit the place where the enterprise and reference data community comes to share their experiences of working in this special market segment. DMS Autumn speakers can be found here.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been thrilled at how our community has responded to the call to action: that is, to get involved in this season’s DMS, which takes place on October 3 at London’s America Square.  The program is now taking shape nicely, and I think we’ll have a compelling day lined up for those who plan to come along.

I’m particularly excited by the prospect of a keynote from Mr. Gibson, who looks after data architecture for the Markets group at Royal Bank of Scotland, and by what I think will be a unique session looking at how the data management function will account for itself 18 months hence. We’re also pretty booked for sessions on the LEI (no surprises there) and managed/hosted reference data services (surely an emerging hot topic). Plus, we’ll have the usual look at the particularly onerous regulatory drivers (Fatca!), and the particularly powerful technologies that can help address them (in-memory, cloud and, gasp, Big Data).

Another couple of firsts for this event:

We’re very happy to be partnering with the EDM Council and EDM Works (no relation), who’ll be running sessions through the afternoon at the DMS conference. This, you’ll recall, is all part of my vision for the event as a kind of Glastonbury Festival for the data management community. Or, as I like to think of it, a 100 Club session that presents a pulsating alternative to the Status Quo (pun intended). We are looking forward to welcoming Mike Atkin and Dennis Slattery and their teams to our day.

Finally, you may have noticed we’re quietly launching the A-Team DMS Awards at this season’s event. I’ve long been sceptical of such things, but we’re finally bowing to customer demand; our clients and contacts would like us to enter the awards fray and so here we are.

For our initial foray into the space, we’re asking only professionals who work for financial institutions of any kind to vote in the categories we’ve outlined. We think these groups strike at the heart of the data management business, and so hope to provide a slightly different and very specific take on rewarding excellence in our marketplace. There is – for the record – no connection between nominees and commercial relationship with A-Team. Please vote early (but not often) by clicking here. And yes, we’ll be bugging you frequently via the social media tools we have at our disposal.

So, all in all, I think we are looking at a conference that is both of the people and for the people. We are not ‘flying in’ to do this. We are part of the community and we love it.

See you on October 3!
