Preview: A-Team’s 4th Annual London Low-Latency Summit Set for February 19

The headline states the basics that you need to know about – London on Tuesday, February 19. The Low-Latency Summit has been running in London (OK, under some aliases) since 2010, evolving along the way with a focus this spring on ‘convergence’ – which means how low-latency, cloud and big data technologies are combining to underping automated trading. Here’s some more about what you can learn about by attending …

* First, a few more basics. The venue is the America Square Conference Centre.  The regular price is £195, which is really cheap. Exhibits open at 8am. There is breakfast and breaks and lunch for networking – the food is pretty good, people have told me. And there’s some beer and wine at 5pm. Oh, and click here to register.

* The day begins with some scene setting on convergence from yours truly. Just a few slides to get everyone on the same page.

* The first morning session is “Low Latency – Is it Worth IT?” … and will consider the ROI of investing in trading infrastructure and latency reduction, and what competitive latency means for different types of markets. Expect some discussion of leveraging cloud/managed services to “get what you pay for”.

* The second morning panel will explore different technologies to consider when building an automated trading system, including what components to buy and what to build, and integration issues. Everything from x86 vs FPGA, leveraging Flash memory, and off-the-shelf data feed handlers and market gateways.

* The pre-lunch keynote should be a fun one. Being a citizen of the world working in Palo Alto, living in Kiev and traveling constantly has encouraged Tibco financial services CTO Spencer Greene to think a bit differently, and for his keynote he’ll offer his vision of how one might host an entire marketplace – in a network switch!

* Tibco will host a couple of afternoon workshops as well, providing market positioning and more information on the FTL Message Switch and on an enterprise messaging appliance.

* Application latency reduction and measurement – it’s the final nut to crack – will be the focus of a workshop led by TS-Associates Henry Young.

* And Java and its place in the world of low latency – yes it has one – is going to be covered in a workshop by Azul CTO Gene Til.

* For those still in need of wisdom and direction to make their trading applications go faster, a workshop will discuss the relative merits of mainstream x86 architectures, and over clocking, versus offloading code to FPGAs, and what toolkits are available.

* Finally, there’s a change of pace with a look at low-latency trading opportunities in Russia – why it’s happening, and different options to participate.

All in all, a very full day of educational panels and workshops. And a great roster of vendors in the exhibits area to chat with about your specific needs.

So, register today. At £195 it’s a bargain. And if you drop me a line, I might even give you a discount.
