Infochimps has released version 1.1 of its cloud-hosted Big Data Platform, adding the capability to connect to streaming data. The updated Data Delivery Service – based on Apache Flume – allows the platform to connect to enterprise data sources via either out-of-the-box or custom-developed connectors. Within the DDS is the ability to process data streams, with analytics coded in languages such as Ruby.
The Austin-based company transformed itself from a data marketplace to a big data platform provider earlier this year (though it still offers data sets). The platform supports ETL (Extract-Transform-Load) operations, analytics and visualisation.
Among the platform’s components is Wukong, a scripting language based on Ruby, which allows analytics to be performed using simple grammar, without needing knowledge of underlying technologies, such as Hadoop.
The platform can be configured to run on in-house infrastructure, or is available as a service, with cloud service provided by Rackspace.
