Exegy/StreamBase Partner For Big Data and Low Latency

Linking its hardware accelerated ticker plant to StreamBase System’s complex event processing (CEP) software, Exegy is addressing different trading strategies with one solution, says chief scientist Scott Parsons. “Is this a play about big data or low latency? The answer is yes.”

The Exegy to StreamBase link was made possible by leveraging published APIs for each system, and connecting the Exegy ticker plant to the server running StreamBase’s CEP engine via InfiniBand networking using RDMA protocols that allow data in RAM on one system to be mapped to memory in another.

Using InfiniBand and RDMA, says Parsons, is not only very low latency, but also provides a straightforward way to transfer large amounts of data between systems, so handling of high volume data feeds is simplified.

Trading firms – a couple of which have already tested the Exegy/StreamBase combo – can then use StreamBase’s software to analyse data patterns for complex trading strategies. Parsons says this represents a new market for Exegy, which hitherto has serviced ultra-low latency trading applications.
