The CICI utility, the DTCC- and Swift-operated repository for so-called pre-LEIs that has managed the registrations of so-called CFTC Interim Compliant Identifiers (CICIs) since its launch in August 2012, will rebrand itself next month as the Global Markets Entity Identifier Utility, or GMEI Utility.
The rebranding is scheduled to take effect January 21. From that point on, the CICI will be known as the GMEI, and the url for the utility will become https://www.gmeiutility.org.
According to Ron Jordan, managing director and chief data officer at the DTCC, the rebrand stems from the facts that the former CICI identifier is no longer ‘interim’ – it’s now permanent, he says – and nor is it solely limited for use in the swaps markets as required by the CFTC – rather it’s “globally endorsed,” Jordan says.
Indeed, speaking last week on RDR’s webinar on the topic of LEIs – full report here – Jordan said: “My belief is that the system is globally viable now.”
