Global Relay, a provider of compliance messaging and archiving solutions, has launched an AI-powered voice-to-text transcription service to address the growing demand for effective voice surveillance, as compliance teams face increasing challenges in monitoring a diverse array of virtual platforms.
Global Relay’s new service aims to bridge the gap in monitoring voice communications by offering an integrated platform for voice transcription, archiving, and monitoring alongside other forms of communication data. The transcription service is designed to handle the complexities of modern communication—including technical jargon, slang, and various accents—while filtering out background noise.
Warren Roy, CEO of Global Relay, says: “It’s about providing compliance teams with the tools to act on all data in their archive. Accuracy, security, and control are fundamental.”
To demonstrate the capabilities of its transcription service, Global Relay is inviting firms to participate in the Global Relay Voice Challenge. Companies can submit complex voice recordings for live transcription, allowing them to evaluate the service’s performance firsthand.
Multilingual Capabilities and Compliance
In an increasingly globalized business environment, the ability to transcribe communications in multiple languages is crucial. Global Relay’s system supports transcription in 57 languages, with the option to translate text into English on demand. Features like speaker separation are intended to ease compliance professionals’ workload by enabling more efficient analysis of voice data.
Earlier this year, Global Relay expanded its portfolio by integrating OpenAI’s ChatGPT Enterprise Compliance API into its surveillance channels. This integration allows financial institutions and other regulated industries to securely capture and archive interactions with AI-powered applications, ensuring compliance standards are met as firms continue to innovate with generative AI technologies.
OpenAI announced the ChatGPT Enterprise Compliance API in July, collaborating with Global Relay and other companies specializing in e-discovery and data loss prevention. According to Sahar Kayhani, Chief Product Officer at Global Relay, “Our work with OpenAI was built through relationships with existing product partners. It is a testament to the positive experiences we have working alongside the compliance community.”
Regulatory Context and Compliance Implications
Regulatory bodies are increasingly focusing on off-channel communications and the use of AI technologies in business communications. In March, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) updated its guidelines to include AI chatbot communications under the same supervision and recordkeeping rules as other business communications. This highlights the urgency for firms to address potential compliance gaps associated with new communication channels.
Recent regulatory enforcement actions and financial penalties have underscored the importance of robust compliance frameworks. Global Relay’s solutions aim to address these concerns by providing a complete audit trail, ensuring organizations can disclose communications to regulators while maintaining data security and integrity.
Global Relay is also exploring the adoption of generative AI (GenAI) and large language models (LLMs) to enhance its offerings. Kayhani notes that “communications surveillance is the area we’re seeing the most transformative impacts currently,” and that GenAI is “driving rapid change across the compliance landscape.”
The company has integrated a 70-billion-parameter LLM into its surveillance offering for more accurate, AI-enhanced transcription and translation. Global Relay is continuously assessing where new compliance APIs are becoming available from other GenAI developers to support partners’ requirements and the compliance space as a whole.
As businesses navigate the complexities of regulatory compliance in a dynamic digital environment, tools that integrate smoothly across different communication platforms are essential. Global Relay’s advancements in AI-powered voice transcription and integration with AI applications like ChatGPT Enterprise represent steps toward enabling firms to meet regulatory demands effectively. By focusing on accuracy, security, and control, such technologies can play a critical role in supporting compliance professionals in an era where voice communication and advanced AI are increasingly intertwined.
