ADVA Expands Open Line System to Ease Data Centre Interconnect Bottlenecks

ADVA has introduced an expanded FSP 3000 open line system (OLS), providing customers with access to the data centre interconnect (DCI) OLS that includes integrated optical time-domain reflectometer (OTDR) capability and allows optical fibre monitoring in a live network and reduces DCI bottlenecks.

Hyperscale DCI networks consist of short, wide pipes that connect from point-to-point, meaning that the interworking between each terminal and line system does not necessitate as much fine-tuning. The compact and integrated OTDR that monitors the fibre plant while providing real-time information can eliminate the need for additional test and measurement equipment and reduce the time to allocate a fibre fault. As a result, the OTDR will decrease mean time for repair.

Stephan Rettenberger, senior vice president of marketing and investor relations at ADVA explains: “In many cases, data centres outgrow the buildings where they first started and most hyperscalers run architectures where multiple warehouse size buildings around a metropolitan area are interconnected to act like one super-hyperscale data centre. If the networking capacity between these data centres is too small, the performance of the data centre cluster will suffer and all the millions of dollars invested in the latest generation of compute and storage technology will be underutilised. So it is important that the DCI does not become a bottleneck in the clustered/interconnected architecture.”

Modernising for Continuous Markets: Why Infrastructure Must Be Built for Constant Change

Trading infrastructure modernisation is no longer being driven solely by latency reduction or cost efficiency. The stronger message emerging across the industry is that firms are having to prepare for markets that are increasingly global, extended-hour, automated and operationally unforgiving. That was the central takeaway from a panel discussion at A-Team Group’s recent TradingTech Summit...
