In financial markets, digitalisation is a hot topic. But until now, much of the work around digital transformation has been focused on front-office workflow and the customer experience, rather than back-office functions. But the back office is arguably where a clear digitalisation strategy can yield some of the most significant benefits, particularly as the industry still relies heavily on legacy post-trade platforms, which are often costly and cumbersome to maintain. Additionally, with the move towards T+1 settlement, with regulators placing greater scrutiny on post-trade processes, and with the need to do more with post-trade data, firms increasingly recognise the need to modernise in this area.
