Michael Vapenik

Michael Vapenik is the Enterprise Data Governance Officer for American Express.  An accomplished, results-focused executive with over 20 years experience within the financial services industry.  Mike has an outstanding record of achievement crossing all facets of the risk and marketing lifecycles for consumer / commercial cards and merchants for American Express (AMEX).  A strategic and operational leader with exceptional data, analytical and quantitative skills, Mike’s talent for identifying business opportunities, leading initiatives and managing change at the congruence of data, analytics, technology, people and business processes has been acknowledged year over year.  Mike has repeatedly been cited for outstanding service and is the recipient of numerous AMEX awards.  Mike has also filed for three patents (one issued, two pending).

Brett J. Caracciolo

Brett Caracciolo is a Subject Matter Expert in defining and implementing data management programs, consisting of end-to-end data strategies, governance policies and frameworks, data architecture, reporting and analytics. With deep technology roots, Brett successfully implemented several large data governance programs with common themes of introducing leading data management practices while satisfying regulatory and compliance criticism. Brett leads the Data Management Office as the SVP and Director of Data Governance for Sterling National Bank. Sterling is recognized as a top regional bank committed to strong growth and talented, high-achieving individuals. Currently, Brett is implementing data management capabilities and standing-up a Data Governance Program, involving people, process, and technology. With only 6 months into the program development, Brett has already made great gains in obtaining strong executive support and measured success in the 5 strategic program components (Governance Policy, Data Quality, Data Stewardship, Metadata Repository, and Data Aggregation/Reporting & Analytics) supported through roles, responsibilities, and procedures.

Previously, Brett spearheaded a similar data governance program at the Bank of Tokyo Mitsubishi. In addition, he was instrumental in integrating the program with Union Bank after the merger in July of 2014. Brett led the rationalization of the data governance components, assimilating the “best of the best”, to create an industry leading data program, conforming to BCBS 239 principles.

Brett started his career at Merrill Lynch where he graduated from their selected technology/management training program, and enjoyed deep technology roots for two decades across Financial and Banking applications.

During his 20+ years of management consulting services experience at leading consultancies EY and PwC, Simon helped financial services institutions design and implement information and data governance processes to support internal, external, and regulatory reporting including BCBS 239 and CCAR.
