Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) regulation, a set of proposals from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) for a new market risk-related capital requirement for banks, is due to be implemented across APAC over the next few years. Singapore and Japan, by way of example, have set implementation deadlines in 2024, while Australia has pushed out go-live to 2026.
This webinar will provide an industry update on FRTB implementation across APAC jurisdictions, highlight what is left to do, and identify the toughest outstanding challenges and some best practice responses. It will also touch on helpful RegTech solutions for compliance, lessons learnt from other regional implementations, and the benefits of getting FRTB right.

Vishal Kapoor has 23 years’ experience in strategic planning, risk management, and capital planning advisory. He is currently heading the audit teams for Risk and Finance in DBS at the Group level. He has spent time in auditing, banking and consulting. His projects include reviewing ICAAP/ liquidity risk for 3 consecutive years for a major Singapore-based bank, and reporting the results to the board and the regulator. He addressed stress testing issues at an enterprise-wide level, set risk governance for banks in China and Singapore, conducted programme reviews for Basel II and provided over 700 hours ICAAP/ Basel III/ liquidity training to senior management and the board of various banks. Previously, he held key positions with JP Morgan, Standard Chartered, Deutsche Bank, and Credit Suisse. He holds an MBA from Chicago Booth School of Business and is a Chartered Accountant.

Prior to joining ICE, Dr. Xiao gained significant exposure across derivatives, fixed income and credit while working at several global investment banks in London. Since moving to Asia, Dr Xiao has consulted in financial risk advisory at a leading consultancy in Hong Kong, and played an instrumental role in establishing a derivatives analytics fintech in Shanghai.
