Mellon Capital Has Opted for Eagle’s Data Management Platform to Better Manage Risk, Says Lillard

BNY Mellon owned asset management firm Mellon Capital Management has opted to rollout Eagle Investment Systems’ data management platform in order to help the firm better manage risk and regulatory change, according to Linda Lillard, deputy chief operating officer at Mellon Capital. The San Francisco-based firm is already using Eagle’s performance measurement and attribution system but will now also be moving its data into the vendor’s centralised data repository for investment data.

“We felt it was important to select a data management solution to better manage risk, better automate our system and more easily comply with an evolving regulatory environment,” explains Lillard. The move is all part of Mellon Capital’s wider back office upgrade and the Eagle data hub will centrally manage the firm’s data, which will then be fed into its various middle and back office systems.

The fact that both firms are essentially subsidiaries of parent BNY Mellon and have already worked together to rollout another solution should mean the rollout and subsequent maintenance of the data hub should be a much easier process than that of two completely unrelated firms. Mellon Capital will also be using Eagle Data Mart, which enables users to report on information from Eagle applications and generate information for access using third party report and query tools.

“We selected the Eagle system because we believe it will do a good job of centrally managing, qualifying and enhancing our data and feeding it into our middle and back office systems,” adds Lillard.

This is a home win for Eagle, but the vendor is also aggressively expanding its reach in other geographies including Europe and Asia. Earlier this month, Eagle moved its current Asian and EMEA managing director John Legrand from his London base out to its Singapore office in order to boost its competitive approach in the Asian region and it has also indicated plans to expand its on the ground presence in London. The vendor already has a number of clients in the Asian region, but it is keen to grow its regional demographic aggressively over the next couple of years. Many other vendors have also adopted this strategy, as the US and European markets continue to prove challenging in the post-crisis environment.

This year also saw the launch of its new data integration services, which effectively packages together its standard and reusable interfaces into a service layer that sits on top of its hosted Eagle Access data solution. Eagle is attempting to differentiate itself from the competition on the basis of these value adds and its hybrid approach to the data solutions market. The new integration services solution is therefore an attempt on the part of Eagle to bring down the cost, risk and turnaround time in deploying its hosted data management solution.
