LiquidityBook Taps Twitter Techie Carroll as Chief Architect

As financial services technology continues to play catch-up with the kids using widely available consumer technologies, trading software supplier LiquidityBook has put its money where its mouth is. The company has named Andy Carroll, former Twitter staff software engineer, as its chief architect, charted with leading the development of its SaaS delivery platform.

LiquidityBook is a New York-based provider of cloud-based order management, portfolio management, execution management, FIX network connectivity, compliance and pre- and post-trade processing capabilities.

Carroll’s appointment is the company’s third addition in three months, following the hire of Les Vital as head of technical sales and Nicholas Thompson as client services manager for EMEA, both from Eze Software Group. Carroll will report to CTO Shawn Samuel.

Carroll joined Twitter as part of the company’s acquisition of BlueFin Labs, a social TV analytics firm. At Twitter, he worked in the Live Video group, as tech lead on the project to live-stream the US National Football League’s 2016 season games.

But unlike some other who have made the switch from consumer to financial technology, Carroll does have financial markets experience. He started his 30-year career developing financial software including a project to capture quotes from the floor of the Sydney Futures Exchange using voice recognition technology.

According to LiquidityBook CTO Samuel, “Flexibility and scalability are crucial to the ongoing success of our product, which makes the Chief Architect role one of the most critical in our technology organization,” adding that he “looks forward to his leadership on several of the key infrastructure projects we have queued up.”
