FactSet Opts for Telekurs VDF To Support Securities Master File

As it continues to expand its own information services offerings, Norwalk, Conn.-based FactSet Research Systems Inc. has opted to use Telekurs Financial’s Valordata Feed to augment the securities master file it uses to underpin management of the numerous internal and external data sources it uses. As well as augmenting its security master file, FactSet will continue to use Telekurs as one of the data sources for its own services.

FactSet, which offers high-end information services aimed at the investment banking, investment management and research communities, will use VDF to provide a structured database for applying descriptive data for the asset classes it covers.

The company’s services include data from more than 200 proprietary and third-party database, including pricing, fundamental financial data, earnings estimates, broker research, benchmark constituent and returns data, mutual fund return data, economic data, news and corporate actions, quantitative models and research, fixed-income data, and sector and industry classifications.

Telekurs’ VDF provides security descriptions, global instrument and issuer identifiers as well as corporate actions and events, pulling data from Telekurs’ database of structured, encoded securities information, which itself covers 2.5 million instruments globally. The VDF feed also provides information about issuers, trading places, prices, underlying instruments, security and entity identification schemes, ratings, payment events and corporate actions.
While FactSet executives weren’t available for comment, Telekurs (USA) director of marketing and strategic alliances Deirdre Sullivan points to the fact that a company like FactSet, with requirements to manage such a broad array of data types and sources, has selected VDF to provide structure to its data management capability.

Corporate Actions Europe 2010

The European corporate actions market could be the stage of some pretty heavy duty discussions regarding standards going forward, particularly with regards to the adoption of both XBRL tagging and ISO 20022 messaging.
