Following on from the recent ‘real-life’ benchmarking of its Nexus 3548 switch, Cisco Systems has published a white paper on accelerating market data, working with AdvancedIO Systems and MayStreet.
In the white paper – available here – different architectures are considered, including processing market data by software on a server versus performing filtering on an FPGA-based network card.
The white paper outlines the results of a number of tests run on a typical configuration, handling a range of equity and options data feeds. That configuration comprised a Cisco rack server, the 3548 switch, AdvancedIO’s V5031 FPGA-accelerated network card, and Bellport market data delivery software from MayStreet.
The test results show the performance improvement of leveraging FPGA filtering – and how (and why) it varies with the data feed being processed.
