The Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) has completed the implementation of Velocimetrics’ real-time performance monitoring and analysis software, giving it greater operational insight into the performance of its trading platform and the ability to respond quickly to any latency issues that could cause trading delays or compromise customer experience.
The exchange selected the Velocimetrics software working in conjunction with the EndaceProbe Intelligent Network Recorder, which supports packet capture, network monitoring, recording and nanosecond accurate time stamping at each hop of a trade, a couple of years ago and started to roll out the solution in June 2013 before extending its use and recently completing implementation. The joint solution was selected ahead of a competitive product on the basis of its price performance and the granularity at which it can monitor and analyse network traffic.
Essentially, the solution monitors hop-by-hop performance of every equity order submitted to ASX Trade, the exchange’s equities platform, and provides business insight into the latency of the environment and real-time alerts of any trading anomalies.
Bill McDonald, general manager of the enterprise architecture group at ASX, says: “With this solution we are able to continuously verify the speed and reliability of our world class trading platform, while identifying potential opportunities to further enhance our members’ experience.”
The ASX is one of a number of global exchanges that use the Velocimetrics performance monitoring solution, but the first to go public about its implementation. It is also about to start a technology upgrade programme that will include the replacement of its derivatives and equities trading platforms with solutions from Cinnober Financial Technology, a development in which Velocimetrics would like to be included.
